Senior DevOps Engineer

Slashdot Media (SDM) is a rapidly growing, very profitable 20-year-old integrated marketing company. Our family of iconic websites such as sourceforge.net and slashdot.org generate over 40 million unique visitors and over ½ billion-page views per month. We are seeking a DevOps Engineer to join our DevOps team.

Our core infrastructure is self-hosted and heavily relies on open source tools / technologies such as Proxmox, Linux, Ceph, Docker and more. As a DevOps engineer on our team, you should be able to understand the complexities surrounding such systems and effectively manage workloads that span them.

Qualifications:

3+ years experience in a DevOps or Systems Administrator role that includes the following:

• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
• Experience managing and configuring Nginx
• Experience with ceph
• Experience with Juniper
• Experience with Elasticearch or Opensearch
• Experience with Ansible or other configuration management tools
• Experience managing Mariadb, Postres, or other database technologies
• Experience with scripting languages (bash, python, etc)
• Excellent troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work closely with other engineers, product managers
• Ability to work in a dynamic and agile environment with tight deadlines

Responsibilities:

• Maintain RHEL based and Ubuntu servers
• Maintain nginx/apache web servers
• Maintain php-fpm application servers
• Maintain haproxy load balancers
• Maintain databases running on MySQL, Postgres, and mongodb
• Maintain various other open source software
• Facilitate Data Center work such as network cabling, drive replacements, and server installations via remote hands
• Support development teams and and assist DevOps Engineers as needed
• Automate and improve existing processes
• Adapt legacy systems to modern practices
• Participate in on-call rotation

Nice to Have:

• Familiarity with Python , PHP, Perl, and/or C
• Experience with server virtualization and containerization technologies
• Experience migrating legacy systems to containerized applications
• Experience managing and troubleshooting email systems
• Experience managing DNS

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $250,000.00 - $350,000.00 per month
